Yea, I only built one computer before and that was some time ago. I'm not familiar with the new compatibilities, or remember what even needs to be compatible.

I hope you guys can shed some light into the situation and help out. Please feel free to leave any comments on my selected items, I don't know what is prudent or wise anymore.

Thanks in advanced.

Too much PSU and not enough processing :)

AMD hasn't been the way to go for some time, except for some lower end price points... some of the newest Phenoms are coming close to being competitive though.

Modern power supplies are better built, as long as you know which ones to buy. Generally a good 500W today is enough for most single GPU builds... If you are going high end with a very powerful video card then the 750TX might be a good choice. If you needed to run, say, two 8800GTs in SLI then the 750TX would be good.

Your older 7900GT may last for a while on that 22" monitor, but don't be surprised if you find yourself upgrading or replacing that soon.

You should stick with a simpple but powerful MB such as:
ASUS P5QL -E

And get:
E7200

Actually, just get the 4th combo deal down here:

That e8400 and P5Q pro will blow your build out of the water, at a great price.

Haha what happened to AMD since I've been away from the computer world?

Yea I agree on the PSU, I just wanted it in case I change things around in the future.

Just out of curiosity though, was my current build at least compatible with each other, so that I know what I have to look for if I decide to switch builds.

Thanks for the help

Any other opinions?

Yes compatible. Probably not the best choice for AMD currently. The 790 chipsets are the newer and are getting good reviews. Some folks are even building around the 790GX, even though they are using graphics cards.

Still, at a moderate price range you are best off with a P45 or P43 chipset and a dual or quad Intel CPU.

Also, when you throw in extremely easy and simple overclocks (usually without even increasing voltage) you get incredibly good buys with Intel.

There are plenty of good threads here with great builds on a budget. You should check some out.

I decided to stick with AMD regardless.
I chose this PSU

And replaced the CPU with

Keep in mind that I'm not looking into doing too many crazy things, I'm a light gamer (who may try some stuff later on, but not often). So considering that, how does this sound?

I will probably get better video cards later on, just not now.

The combo I listed would be around 60% faster or more, for an extra 50 bucks.

Here is a comparison of a few CPUs. The Brisbane you chose was not on the charts, but I chose some faster and slower AMD CPUs to compare.

Good choice on the PSU.
