hello, i ordered a gigabyte mobo (ud3r) around xmas time and it would turn on then shut off after 10 seconds or so then turn off then turn on again, so i figured it was broke so i sent it back to newegg and my new one arrived today, and the same thing is happening, can anyone please help me with this, thanks
cpu: q6600
mobo: ud3r
hard drive: 1 WD 500 GB, 1 SEAGATE 1 TB
video card: gtx 260 core 216
psu: corsair 750w
i have some fans, and cable sleeves, some uv lights, and an xigmatek 1283
So, is this a completely new build, or are any parts confirmed good? Also, at what point does it restart? And just to confirm, it keeps restarting (until you unplug it?)?
A similar issue I had was a 4850 I had was defective and had a short in it. The PSU would (thankfully) do an emergency cutoff. If it keeps turning back on though, that is weird.
the gtx 260is new (first one died), the cpu is anout a year old, same with the case, fans and lights, i dont knowwhat partit restarts at because i get no feed in my monitor, just a black screen , and yes if i dont unplug it it keeps restarting
I don't suppose you have a different (old) video card you could try? One other thing you can try is booting with only the essentials (Video, CPU, one stick of Ram) and see what happens. Also maybe try resetting the CMOS.
do what EXT says and only boot with the bare essentials id recomend even removing the jumpers connecting to the switches on the case and fans also am pretty sure that particular motherboard has a power button on the board itself.
Can you connect 2 the bios without it rebooting in order to check the tempretures?
thanks for reply, i will try that EXT suggested i will let you know the results, also is my xigmatek retetntion bracket (the metal plate on the back of the mobo) what i suppost to take the tape off, or is it safe to ust have the metal touching the back of the mobo? (the directions said take the double sided tape off, im assuming i did that right)
The bracket on for CPU fan cannot touch the motherboard unless there is a rubber or similiar insulator preventing metal from touching the board circuits. The tape is common to keep the bracket in place.
Also make sure the CPU cooler is not being prevented from sitting flush to the CPU by a capacitor or any other components.
If all this is ok then here is a few other items to check:
Make sure your 12v line is attached to motherboard (Yellow.Black 4 pin connector).
All USB connections are removed from board (can cause short if bad)
BIOS is up to date for your processor
Motherboards sometimes still use jumpers on board, see manual
Test using another power supply - Very common to cause reboot cycle.
Lastly check for damage to CPU socket pins, use maginifying glass and tweezers if necessary.

Good Luck!
i set up everything outside the box, mobo worked for over 30 seconds (with the metal braket touching the back of the motherboard) then when i install the cpu it shuts off....bad cpu or socket? (will look for an old motherboard to test after i get home, in in school )
