Hello, I was about to take the plunge but decided it might be a good idea to get some other opinions, as i'm a bit of a girl when it comes to spending money. Set myself an £800 budget which I’m currently just about below.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair) Retail Boxed Processor - £133.93

Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5(5-5-5-18) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty - £49.99

Asus P5Q PRO P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - £84.97

Sapphire HD 4850 Toxic Edition 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - £154.38. I know the 4850 has some heat issues and as I don’t have a lot of experience in modifying graphics cards, thought getting a pre modded one may be a safer choice.

Seagate ST3500320AS 500GB Hard Drive SATA II 7200rpm *32MB Cache* - OEM - £43.99

Coolermaster CM690 Dominator Black Mid Tower Case - No PSU - £66.26

Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W PSU - ATX 12V V2.01 120mm Fan 20+4pin - £44.09

LG W2242S 22" TFT Monitor 1680x1050 8000:1 300cd/m2 5ms VGA Black 3 Years Onsite Warranty - £128.95. I’m slightly worried monitor wise as this seemed like a very good deal for the price / brand / size , but would it be a wiser choice to spend a little more?

ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2 - Processor cooler - (Socket 754, Socket 940, Socket 939, Socket AM2) - Copper - £29.78

Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound - £3.35

Optiarc AD-7200S 20X DVD±RW/DL/RAM Internal SATA Bare Black Drive - OEM - £15.89

The machine will be for general use and gaming, decided on a quad core for future proofing purposes. Some gentle overclocking may occur. With a few extras it currently totals £793, but there may be some wiggle room for updates if need be on the £800.

Cheers.

You will need a quality PSU. The one you have chosen is from an inconsistent at best PSU provider.

This is just a bit more and a reliable PSU:
OCZ 600W

This is a far better and less expensive CPU cooler:
Vendetta

Otherwise it looks good.

^ 2nded. Or a Xigmatek cooler + mounting kit.

The Optiarc is unfamiliar to me. You might want well known brands like ASUS, SAMSUNG, LITE-ON.

Thanks, i was slightly sceptical about the PSU, as it was 650w for less than any other 600w i could find, so thats changed to the OCZ in a heart beat.

Ebuyer rather annoyingly dont have the Xigmatek, so i'd have to pay for extra postage to get one, so i'll stick with the Vendetta.

Cheers.
