you guys... come on. TH was able to SLI 2 8800GT's on a 400-watt power supply... and you guys are recommending 500-watters, when SLI-GTX280's don't even use that much, granted, amperage is a factor (I doubt that any 400-watt power supply would have the amps to handle 2 GTX280s...), but not as much with a 9600GT.

Go for this one why don't cha. It's the most popular power supply on newegg, and for good reason. It should have no problem with the 9600GT and several DVD and hard disk drives. I own it and currently have it in a media center build with 5 hard drives, :p  and it works great. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Check out this one too. Looks like there's new Corsair (little) kid on the block. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I like this one as it's a quality unit with 27 amps max combined +12V, and I know it will run a 9600GT, 8800GT and even HD4850, although can't vouch for it on a loaded overclocked Quad core with multiple drives.

Added info: $10 more gets you the 430W version, $20 more the 500W version.

i agree with you completely but its only 29.99 for an antec 500w. you could probably use a 350w and be okay.
im using my antec earthwatt 500w with 2 gtx260 in sli and im planing to add a 9800gt for physics.

All good suggestions, didn't see a single PSU i wouldn't use out of the bunch. Can compare shipping/rebates etc. to pick the one you want.

Thanks a ton for all the suggestions guys, I ended buying an Evga Geforce 9600 GSO (768mb)

I got a great deal on a PSU out the door with newegg with special $30 savings for the "combo"

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

So let me get this straight, since this PSU has two 12V rails I must add them to get the amperage?

So that would mean this psu has 29AMPS or am I wrong?

(on a side note, after rebate and combo savings I will have bought the PSU for $10!)

For the 9600GSO, you should be more than fine with that power supply

COncerning the 12V rails - The power supply does not give enough specs on the label to tell the max combined +12V. You can not just add the two rails as sometimes that works out, but other times the actual max combined is much lower. In the same way it mentions max +3.3V & +5V = 220W, it would need to say max 12V1 and 12V2 = xxx Watts. Then you could divide by 12(V) to get the amps.
