More about speed ethernet
  1. USB 2.0 would be the slowest. USB 2.0 has a theoretical speed of 60MByte/sec, but in practice it's pretty much limited to about 30-35MByte/sec for external disks.

Gigabit Ethernet should be capable of up to about 100MByte/sec, although I don't have any personal experience with drive performance using it.

USB 3.0 would be even faster.
  2. I believe the ethernet NAS storage would be faster as in some cases, you will/should be able to get around 70 - 90 MB/s. Also, you have one central area for all your storage.
  3. NAS hands down.....plus you get RAID mirroring, you get hot swap, auto rebuild, etc.
