Worth it to upgrade my gfx card?

Hi all,

I've got an 8800GTS (G92) and I'm wondering whether or not it's worth it to upgrade to something like a 4850 for ~$150. I'm not a fan of Crysis, but I do play a few more modern games, and will I notice a big enough difference at 1680 x 1050 to make it worth the upgrade?

For reference, I'm using an e8400 with 4gb ddr2 on a vista 64bit machine. Thanks for your input!

Hello and welcome to the fourms mate :)
Moving from 8800GTS 512 to a HD 4850 wont give u a good boost in performance :)

Not worth it . Wait for the next gen cards, unless you have money to burn(in which case you should get something better than 4850).

True, it's not worth it. Wait another six or nine months and the new 40nm video cards will be out. Or get a GTX 260 or even a HD 4870 X2 if you want a serious boost now. Or add another 8800GTS card if your MB and PSU support it.

I agree, it's not worth it. You want to skip a tier or two when upgrading, or you will be disappointed. For you, that means a 9800GX2/4870/GTX260 or preferably better.

aevm beated me to it: if your current PSU+MB supports it, adding a second GTS would give you much better performance boost for your money.

If like me you just got a P35 board (which I don't regret), just stick with the 8800GTS, it plays most games really great at 1680x1050.
