Hello

Thanks for everyone one's help for telling me about which stuff might be good to buy.

Question, I have researched the parts and know the i7 processors are coming out.
Is it worth it to still buy the Q6600 or Q9550 processors? Or should I get the new i7-920 core?
I want to have a good gaming system but I don't need the top of the line.

Help please

If you are going to purchase a new mobo/RAM/CPU I'd rather choose X58/ i7 920. This cpu beats the much higher priced c2q top cpu's!

Yes, wait for next year's Phenom II to come out before you make a decision. It might be faster than some C2Q so the prices of Intel will most likely drop. Maybe it might even have an impact on i7 prices. AMD Phenom II is coming out around Jan 8 I heard. You might even want to go to AMD if the Phenom II performs better than C2Q at a lower price. If you build a i7 system, it's only about $200 more than a Q6600 system.

Ok I will try to wait. If I go with the i7 set up, any mother board suggestions? Company too. I want to build a good system so I don't need the most expensive board out there.

Just checked NewEggs prices on the i7 parts and they have motherboards as low as 200 bucks.
This is cheaper than some of the 790i and x48 boards. So basic its the same price to buy a q9300 or q9550 cpu and motherboard set up or a i7 cpu and mother set up now? I will be playing games only on this. WOW, LOTR Online, COD4 and maybe some of the heavy shooters.
Would the i7 be overkill for this? I am ready to buy today.

Please help

yeah, the i7 920 is the same price as like the q9450 or something isnt it? may as well go i7, although for games theres almost no difference...

again we go back to the age old formula: FPS=graphics card intensive RTS=CPU intensive RPG=balanced leaning towards graphics but not as noticeable as FPS

imo only get i7 if core 2's are bottlenecking your gtraphics setup... ie two 4870X2's or 2/3 GTX 280's..
