Quick question,

which one of these would u recommend to use with a phenom II and 790gx mb. OS will be 64-bit and use will be video editing, photoshop and gaming.
All are 2x2 gb

Crucial Ballistix 800 at 4-4-4-12

GSkill 1066 at 5-5-5-15

OCZ Reaper 800 at 4-4-4-12

i value stability too and probably the fact that it will be easier to upgrade later to 4 sticks of 2gb 800 than the same for 1066 due to weird amd cpu limitation.

any other options are welcome, given they stay around the 50-60 dollar range ofcourse.

Ballistix overclock great, but from what I've heard they fail more then other brands.

I personally would go with the G.Skill 1066 RAM. Good timings, cheap, and from a good company.

I use OCZ Platinum 2x2GB 1066 Ram on a Gigabyte 790GX with a Phenom II. It autodetected and seems quite stable. The GSkill you list there looks quite solid too though.

I too am confused about ram and AMD setups. I was checking the motherboards mf website and it has a question and an answer:

Q: I plan to buy AM2+ CPU and DDR2 1066. I found on that forum that AM2+ CPU does not support more than one DDR2 1066 memory module per channel. Is this true?

A: Yes, due to AMD CPU limitation, DDR2 1066 memory module is supported by AM2+ CPU for one DIMM per channel only. Please keep this limitation in mind when you purchase your DDR2 1066 memory module.

Now, although I have read this, I basically don't understand what it means! Does it mean that a 790fx mobo, with an AM2+ cpu can run 1066mhz RAM, but you will only be able to fill two out of the four DIMMS? So you can have two sticks of 1066mhz, but you would not be able to later upgrade it to 4 sticks of 1066mhz. So if you wanted to use all four DIMM slots, you would have to utilize 800mhz ram?

IS that right? Thanks for any replies!

Yep, so get big memory modules from the start. I've never actually tested this, but that is what it is saying.
