Working on new build using GA-EP45-UD3P. Everything working well on boot-up. I have a SATA HDD and a SATA DVD. Which SATA ports should I use for them? I use SATA_0 for the HDD; what about the DVD?

I've tried SATA_1 and SATA_2 for the DVD, and it works, but do I want the DVD to show up as Slave, or as another Master? I seem to get different results (Master vs. Slave) depending on whether I use SATA_1 or SATA_2.

P.S. Later on, I plan to add a second HDD as backup; I know that will have to be a slave.,

Because there is only one drive to a SATA port, there is no 'master" or "slave" drive.

I have an EP35-DS3P motherboard with 6+2 SATA ports. SATA 0 is my boot drive. SATA 1 and 2 are my 1TB drives. I have an eSATA cable plugged into SATA 4 and my DVD drive plugged into SATA 5.

You can plug any device into any port and let the OS map the devices to whatever "letters" you like. Although you can change it in the BIOS, SATA 0 is the default boot device.
