SO, GTA IV is a really high demanding game, and because of my budget, and because I'm not building my own computer, it's tough to find one that will run the game nice and smooth, and my price range is about $900. And I'm from Edmonton, so if anyone knows stores that will manufacture a comp for me when i buy the parts, that'd be great.

More about : advice good comp gta

Memory express has two stores in edmonton. I haven't had them build one for me but they have decent prices on the hardware.

wait. wait. wait. wait until the phenom 2 is out and quad core prices come down.

another note: why buy a computer just for gta4? the game sucks and is overly repetitive.

^thats your personal opinion. just answer the question.

imo, also wait until Phenom II comes out. then either get one of those or a Q6600 oc to 3.6 or a Q9550 oc to 4.0ghz.

would 8GB RAM make any difference over 4GB on vista 64?

and a 9600GT graphics card.

btw what res are you playing at?

Ok here is what I have, exact PC specs:

Asus P5K-E Deluxe Wifi -AP
Intel C2Q6600 G0 stepping @ 3GHz 1.25v
Zalman CPNS 9700 Cooler
4Gigs Corsair XMS2 PC8500
2x Seagate 500GB SATA 300 in Raid 0
ATI Radeon HD2900Pro 1GB GDDR4 (OCed to 830MHz GPU, 1000MHz Memory)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Extreme Gamer(has the 64MB X-RAM)

I have GTA IV via Steam. I can run it at 1280x1024 with Textures set to medium and rendering to high. The View Distance is set to like 50, Detail distance is 50, Car Density is 50 and Shadows are at 3.

45FPS constantly. And the game looks great.

Basically take my system except maybe a newer mobo (P45), Q6600 (quads do the best for GTA IV) and a HD4850/4870 and you should be set.

So say a Asus P5Q Pro, HD4870, 4GB DDR2, and a Q6600 G0 and OC that CPU to 3GHz and you are set.

why would u wait for an AMD processor to come out only to get a Q6600...? don't give him crap information. the phenom 2 might blow the Q6600 out of the water and on top of that its 45 nm technology so logically: you can overclock it more and it will stay cooler + last longer.

and btw V3NOM - i know its my personal opinion but the whole GTA fan community is saying the same thing. being how i played the gta series from gta london till now i think i have some room for critiquing the game. so please, hush up - i dont want this guy to blow hundreds of dollars on a game he can play on $100 xbox.

PS3 + GTA IV for under $400 :)  Dell is having rebates on the PS3.

but for real..

You could go with a Phenom, Asus M3A79T, 4gb DDR2800 ram, WD6400AAKS, Antec 300 and a 500W PSU.

That should come under $900.

I have recently builty a computer with thise specs for under $900.

Plus it will allow you to upgrade in the future with that MB. And possibly go quadfire with the 4850s :)

GTAIV is the new crysis. I refuse to believe the millions of people in these forums asking about their crysis builds we're only playing crysis. Heck even if you loved the game it was only 8 hours long. However the general assumption being that if your system could play crysis on high settings no other game would be a problem.

quad core, vista, 4 GB of ram, either 4870 1GB or GTX 280 for high settings. If your willing to turn things down just a little bit, I've seen it run on a q6600, 4GB of ram and a 8800gt 512mb @ 1280X1024 smoothly.

err werxen, you told him yourself to wait till phenom 2 as well.

i think, that whether the phenom 2 is up to scratch or not, the prices will drop... if the phenom 2 is better price/performance then you may as well wait fo it.

E8500 and 8800GT seem to get away with decent FPS. It's my build. :)

lol... crysis was a fully functional decently programmed PC game.

gta4 is a horrible console port with more bugs then god knows what. i can code you a crappy game that requires a 16 core computer to run it but looks like turok on the n64 if you want, but it does NOT mean its the next crysis. just because it requires a lot of balls to run gta4 does not make it nearly as visually appealing as crysis was. end of story.
December 22, 2008 7:27:01 AM

+1... crysis was very well coded, it was just before it's time. people got pissed their 5k rigs couldnt max it, when a year later a 1.5k rig could almost max it, depending on the res...

technology changes, get over it.

Too late for Q6600 they have went up on price and will not drop anytime soon. Because supply is running out and demand is still strong. Soon Q9450/9550 will be cheaper than Q6600
December 22, 2008 8:34:01 AM

yeah. weird that... i always wanted one of those Q6600's  ... looks like i'll never get my chance :(

funny you guys mention about gta4's bugs and whatnots. we've been playing it for like 3 days already, somewhere around 12hours a day ( me and my younger sister take turns, when im out of the house, different account though)

no errors, no bsods.

maybe you're setting your graphics option way above the recommended videoram allowance, in which case you might be a little screwed up in the head.

3gbRAM ddr2 800 / 4850 sonic 1gb / q6600 @ 3.0ghz / p5k se

anywho, i recommend a 1gb 4870 as my 4850 struggles a bit if the traffic is too dense or when its the afternoon @ liberty city. the ambient lighting seems a little different.

AND PLAY IT ON THE PC not on some cheap ass console.
