If you whee going to build for $300 i would go 4 something like this,

Thank for your input. I have a old case, three hard drives, Dvd burner, modem, mouse, key board, moniter, ect. The new parts are the motherboard(mobo), cpu, ram, power supply, & XP OS
mobo = Asus P5N EM HDMI ($80), CPU = E2220 or E2200($90 or $70),
ram = (less than $25), power supply = (less than $17) @ priceline.com

$300 budget computer and need an OS.
That'll be a $210 budget computer.

What applications are you planning on running?

I assume your three HDD's are IDE interface (a lot of the new motherboards that still have IDE only supports 2 IDE devices, just a heads up).

ok xp is about $90 so

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Brisbane 2.7GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103210

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-MA78G-DS3H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128335

RAM: Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134635

PSU: Antec earthwatts EA430 430W ATX12V
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371006

So it comes out to be about $220 + $90 for xp = $310

The onboard video on the 780G chipset is the best you can get out there right now.

You don't need a graphics card unless you plan to play Crysis or other games at high settings. You can even play COD4, TF2 at mid settings.
