Go for the cheaper one.

Exactly there is negligible difference between the two, except for maybe tri sli support in 9800gt. I'd go for which ever one was cheaper.

they're the same. probably differs only in manufacturing process of the chip where the 9800gt is more modern. usually the 9800gt is cheaper.

@zodiacfml

With the 9800GT is may be a 65nm(just like the 8800GT) or a 55nm. Only the 1x0GT iterations will definitely be 55nm parts.

perform the same. 55nm version of 9800GT has hybrid support, thats the only difference

Will the performance of XFX Geforce 9800GT Standard Edition be as XFX Geforce 8800GT Alpha Dog Standard Edition on games like Crysis,Call Of Duty 4,Assassins Creed,Alone In The Dark etc?

As everyone else said they are exactly the same card, only difference is the name and the 9800gt supports tri-sli. If you buy a factory overclocked card it will be slightly faster because of higher clock speeds.
