Hi,

I am currently running the following rig:
E6700 @ 3.33Ghz (1333fsb), 1.385v Vcore in BIOS. (no other adjustments necessary)
Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLi
4gb 667 DDR2 RAM
ATi Radeon 4870
Creative labs X-Fi PCI (oem)
2 x 320gb WD SATA RAID0 (OS, etc)
2 x 500gb Samsung SATA RAID1 (Data)

and i'm considering an upgrade to the following:
E8600 (to be overclocked to ~4.5Ghz)
Asus P5Q Deluxe
4gb 800/1066 DDR2 RAM

I was hoping for some advice as to whether this would be a worthwhile upgrade, given the intended overclock.

The rig is used mainly for gaming - Crysis, Stalker, Supcom FA, GRID @ 1680x1050, then for new FPS and RTS as they become available.

I understand that i will definitely see a benefit in Crysis with the upgrade, but is it enough to justify a £400 upgrade? I was hoping to make this the last upgrade to the above rig for the next 12 months, though i am well aware there are no certainties as far as PC hardware is concerned with regards to new game requirements.

Regards,
Jaffa

It doesn't have to be deluxe. PRO or -E will overclock as well. However, you want good ram for overclocking to 450mhz FSB & beyond. If you don't know which is good, stick with the higher speed ones. 1066mhz+.

If you can wait for Nehalem and afford it do so. Else a 4.5GHz E8600 is really sweet for now, no quad will manage that.
