I built a new computer with Vista 64 and my old Linksys WPG54G v4.1 wireless card keeps dropping the connection. The signal never goes down, but it just cuts in and out at random. I'm assuming it has something to do with the drivers not being officially supported by Linksys and not being able to install the Linksys wireless monitor.
So if anyone has a way to fix that that would be great. (I have no firewall, I have tried disabling the network's security, disabling the window firewall, and disabling UPnP.)
But if not, then I could really use a suggestion on a new card that absolutely definitely works with Vista 64. I really appreciate any advice, thanks.
PS: I did ask this in the Wireless Networking forum but got no response, technically it is a problem with my new home built computer though.
Did you call Linksys? They have pretty good tech support. If they tell you the card is too old then ask them which one they recommend. There may also be a firmware update that they can point you to. I don't know about their cards but their routers have them.
I had the same problem but I never got my linksys card working... I ended up buying this gigabyte model.

wireless cards can be tricky. i used to have a trendnet card which would constantly drop the connection, even though it always reported 95-100% signal. i then bought a d-link usb adapter, which doesn't drop the connection, but does occasionally slow down when it's been in use for a long time. i more recently bought a d-link pci adapter, and of all three, the d-link pci is the best one.
