A new standard for SRAM memory that manufacturers of IP routing equipment have been anxiously awaiting for up to three years, makes its debut this month, as Cypress Semiconductor becomes the first of a five-company consortium to roll out QDRII+ (Quad Data Rate, class two, accelerated) SRAM samples, for testing by clients such as Cisco Systems. Because network addresses are being simplified, there's more of them, and Cisco's routers are having a harder time keeping up with them...thus, the need for faster SRAM caches.
