Hard disk longevity

Hello, I have a desktop computer case that has a 500gig hard drive. I am planning to move to another place this year and I wouldn't be using my 500gig desktop computer case for roughly around 2-3 years. Will my datas be okay by any chance if I wouldn't use my computer for that long?

  1. It should be fine. But accidents can happen - if your data is important than it would be wise to copy it to a second 500GB (or larger) drive. If you bought an external drive to store the copy on then you could plug it into whatever other computer you have available and access it periodically so that you know it's OK.
