Monitor goes black after start up

Hi! My computer goes to a black screen when I start it up right after it shows the windows xp is loading it turns black then a flash of purple light comes then it goes black again but I try moving the mouse and I see the pointer on the black screen.

I don't know what the problem is because last night it was working, we just installed a game and it was working good, the problem started when I turned it on this morning.

I need help.

Have you tried booting into safe mode by pressing the F8 key during boot up to see if the display works in safe mode?
