Its been a few (haha try more than a few) years since I last built a system and my old AMD 3400+ system well terrible.

However I haven't been following the last 2 years of computer hardware development and I'd like some input basically to make sure I'm not ordering totally useless components and things that are incompatable.

One thing I'm looking at is getting a solid base (Mobo/CPU) that allows for upgrades of components for at least the next 12-18 months.

Drop MSI, go with Asus or Gigabyte. Also I suggest a 650W or better PSU (If you want to upgrade the PC later), go with Antec, Zalman, Seasonic, OCZ, Corsair, or PC P&C.

A few suggestions would be to ditch that case and bundled PSU. Newegg currently has the Antec 300 case for $55 shipped. Add a nice Corsair PSU and you have a very nice case/PSU.

I would also change the HD to the WD 6400AAKS

With the current cost of RAM, there is no reason not to go with 4GB.

Id definitely recommend going for the full 4gb of ram...

and I think you should probably go with a more reliable psu, maybe from antec or some other reputable brand...

That little fear could cause you some problems in the future. Almost any bundled PSU is crap. If you go cheap on the PSU there is a very good chance of it blowing up and taking your fancy new rig with it.

I'm not sure what the fear is. A power supply is screwed in with 4 screws. Surely someone looking to build their own computer can handle that right?

Thanks for all of the input.

The consensus seems like I've got decent choices for the biggies.

I'm guessing an 8gig supporting mobo is okay?

Yeah I can, the problem is from a case that slipped through manufacturing with a rather sharp edge on one of the metal supports and a finger with no sense of feeling in it.
