What's the best bang for the buck on a thirty inch monitor?

I assume you mean a 30" monitor capable of 2560x1600. Not a 30" tv.
Let the price be your guide. I think Samsung makes the panels for for many other brands. I think they may keep the best samples for their own products. I had a Samsung 305T which was a wonderful monitor. I found the native text size to be a bit small for my eyes, so I gave it to my son in favor of two 26" 275T monitors.
I do miss the 2560x1600 in games, though.
With a big screen, you should insist on a 178/178 viewing angle.
Whatever you do, get the best. You will be looking at it for a long time.

I have owned 3 LCD monitors the last few years.
A 19" square KDS that died 19 months after I bought it, and before the 3 year warranty, but I still would not buy them today.
A 19" wide screen Samsung, gave it to my sister when I built her a system.
A 22" wide screen Samsung, bought it when I gave the 19" to my sister, I just needed an excuse.
I would buy Samsung any time.

+1 for Samsung

I have a 17" 12x10 that's at least 3 years old and still works flawlessly and a <1 year old 22" 16x10 widescreen that I love.
