"Actually, it doesn't sound optimistic enough to me. If the die size of 205mm² is true, ATI could sell these things for really cheap. The Radeon HD 4830, with its 256mm² die size and 256-bit memory interface, is already selling for less than $130 USD. I'm thinking something more like this:

Radeon HD 5870 X4 (Dual MCM, 800MHz Core, 2GB 1200MHz GDDR5) - $649
Radeon HD 5870 X2 (MCM, 800MHz Core, 1GB 1200MHz GDDR5) - $349
Radeon HD 5870 (800MHz Core, 512MB 1200MHz GDDR5) - $199
Radeon HD 5850 (600-650MHz Core, 512MB 1100MHz GDDR3) - $129"

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Today appeared new information about the RV870 chip . Associate reports that this 40 nm chip models will appear at the end of present year, and to the end of first quarter 2009 it will reach the series production .

The quantity of stream processors on RV870 chip can grow up to 1000 pieces. Their resulting computational performance can reach 1,5 teraflops.

The memory capacity on RV870 video card can reach 150-160 Gbit/s. If we considers that Radeon HD 4870 with 256- bit bus and 3600 MHz DDR memory frequency ensures a capacity at the level of 115,2 Gbit/s, RV870 can raise the memory frequency to 4800 MHz DDR with constant memory bus. Qimonda company already released GDDR5 microcircuits working at frequencies up to 5000 MHz DDR .

The RV870 core area will decrease from 256 sq. mm, in RV770, to 205 sq. mm. This will allow to create the two-chip graphical solutions easily."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

integrated memory controller
960 or 1000 shaders
~850 core clocks
~4800GHz ram clocks(can easily overclock to low 5GHz)
1-4GB ram configurations depending on how many GPUs
256 bit ram, 512 bit ram possible with revisions.
dx10.1 now with dx11 for refresh revision

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you hear of more rumors, post here! This is exciting for those gaming at 1920x1080 or higher resolution and have the best overclocked core duo cpus. I wonder when they will have giant LCD monitors above 2560x1600? Otherwise the hd5870x4 is gonna be overkill!

if this is all true, i'm so glad i skipped the 4xxx series x) not that they weren't good, but i hope it would justify me keeping my 3870x2 for a bit longer than i wanted to :P

I probably is true that where the price should be; however, in reality business rule of supply and demand apply. the fact that Radeon's card perform better than nvidia, that push higher demand for radeon, the the equilibrium price will adjust. We have yet seen the spec of the new nvidia card nor radeon for that matter. you cannot assume and gives people hope of where the price should be.

respectfully.

Everyone has to remember, nVidias current G200 is going 576mm² , so 2 of those is 1152mm² in SLI, so 4 5xxx series di will still be over 25% less, and SLI in G200 is doable, tho you do need a monster psu

hey all...to continue this thread

a fun forum i found on the web. probably just all speculation and is just for kicks but nonetheless, it's pretty fun to read so i'd thought i would share it with you guys...click on the links on the page for pixes too. x) pretty cool if i do say so myself

http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/f62/ [...] ow-184906/

here's the link to the orig. forum
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthre [...] 120&page=6

here's a link i found also stating that the R800 series will be 40nm. (maybe confirming the OP as well?)

TSMC 40nm
http://www.cens.com/cens/html/en/n [...] 25020.html

but really though, if speculations are true on the page...
HD 5870 -> 3200 SP + 80 TMUs = simply wow!

from what i know, and correct me if i'm wrong, we will be seeing A LOT more upgrades from 32bit to 64bit OS when the R800 hits. with the 256 bit bus, 32bit OS's can not fully unleash the potential of the 5870x4 due to restrictions of ram limit of the OS

another point: what do you guys think about the realistic probability that there might be a 512bit bus? if the 5870x4 really does have 4 gb of ram, i would assume ATI would use a 512bit bus, or would they hold out? :X

let's hear some opinions and thoughts of how the R800 will play :D

A single 5870 is rumored to be around 20% faster, and possibly 30% faster than a 4870

I wonder if a 5870x4 would bottleneck a q6600?

I wonder what kind of heat 5870x4 will produce... My 4870x2 is insane.

This would be nice. Now if only ATI cards could do F@H as well as Nvidia cards, I'd be very pleased.

i wonder that too, but since it'll most likely be on a 40nm process, things should be cooler than the current 55nm gen.

but if they stick to JEDECs PCIe standards the maximum allowed is 300 watts, no more. and since the 4870X2 allready consumes up to 270W, the difference ain't gonna be big

anyone else afraid its called 'Lil Dragon' because of the heat it puts out?

IDK.... 3200SP for one card or for 2? Because a jump from 800 to 3200 does seem a bit much. 320 to 800 seemed believeable, and was. But 3200. I would imagine the performance would be greater than 30% better.

Maybe I will wait out for this. I bet anything that it will be DX11 though. ATI normally seems to push DX support as soon as possible and even though all HD series GPUs (from the 2K series and up) have Geometry shaders I would prefer a newer faster GPU for christmas.

Sailer, I keep hearing rumors about a new client engine for ATI for F@H, but have yet to see it

If that is true, then my gas bills are going to be tiny next year...
I am 99% sure it won't happen though heh. 5000 series is mainly going to be a die shrink, pushing for power efficiency, cooling and a smaller die size (= cheaper chips). I doubt they'll push for any more performance yet

Reply to shaundwm

Heres something to chew on. As weve seen in differing benches, higher clocks make the most improvement on these (4xxx series) cards. Look at the 4830 560 vs 640 shader debacle, there isnt a 12% difference in fps, no wheres near that. Up the core 12%, and youll be seeing at least a 10% improvement.

We also know that GDDR5 will be running much higher clocks by then, so the ram will easily be able to keep up with a higher core speed. Since we can guesstimate that it CAN have as much as at least 70% more space for everything at the same finished die size, I find 960 very doable, keeping it smaller, and raising the clocks up. The ram is supposed to be over 30% faster, raising the core speed 15-20% and bringing 960 SPs, keeping the same ratio they currently are using, itll easily be 20% gains, and use less power

^That I agree with. The VRAM chip maker already has 5000MHz GDDR5 chips so thats easily dooable as is upping it to say 960 SP.

But if it is a R800 it will need more than just another 160 SP. This looks to just be a refresh like the 3800 series was of the 2900 series. Same chip essentially just better power consumption numbers and less heat.

The R800 I would think would be at least 1K SP and probably double the TMUs and texture units too to actually increas performance even more.

^If thats true then me skipping the 3800 and 4800 series is a good thing. My good ol 2900 pro 1GB is great. But upping to that should yeild even better performance increases in most games if this is true.

Still have to wait for official word from ATI though......

It's not true. It's a mock-up concept by Wirmish @ B3D trying to illustrate some rumours from AUGUST;

Lol, just making a bit of legal controversy here.

Well, the photos and their concepts still look interesting to share and there is nothing wrong with sharing these photos on this forum...

I don't mind different opinions from different people too...

Anyway, thanks for the comments from those who do believe that these are real and those who do not believe that these are real but like I said before on my thread: "Photos of New ATI Radeon HD 5800 series?!", I don't know whether these photos represent the real HD 5800 series or not. I got them from a Laotian Forum website where I don't understand Laos language but found these photos/concepts to be interesting. :D

For others who would like to comment or insult, please feel free to do so... :sol:

Why this rehash? We already know where these really came from, and who "borrowed" them. Sure, its a nice concept, but being able to read Laotian is hardly a requirement to know that this is someones ( a forum goers) concept of a possibility of what might be one of many possibilities that may occur. Even the Inq hasnt truly bit on this one heheh

JayDee's comments mirror my own, the reason I comment, delete and lock regarding this is you posted many of them, and they are old news we discussed at the time. Nothing personal, just calm down a bit with the 'News'.

The thread dedicated to the pictures alone would've been enough, and I would've nicely pointed out 'old news', but since they were essentially spammed on the forum, I had to act on it.

Anywhooo, Please feel free to post 'news' and such you find, but try and limit it to one or two posts, and specifically to current threads.
If there are none then make 1, but leave it at one, that's all we really need and if it's worthy you'll get a ton of action just of one post.
