I see the 975 extreme has clock speed of 3.3 if I over clock 950 to that clock speed will I get the same performance? the reason I ask, im getting new pc in the new future with intel cpu, the extreme is like 1k so if I get the 950 and oc it to that same clock speed will it be around the same performance??

Most people just buy the Ci7 920 D0 and overclock that to 975 speeds and above.

I've got my Ci7 920 at 4.0ghz, which is obviously faster than the 975

All you need is a good cooler and good case, a 920 will easily get you to 3.3ghz, most likely with stock voltage. Don't waste your money on the 950 or 975, just isnt worth it when you counter in OCing

Clock for clock they will give you the same performance. The only difference is that the OCed CPU might produce more heat because it wasn't "binned" at that clock speed and therefore might require more power to reach that speed. Intel's "Extreme" series is really just their regular CPUs with unlocked multiplier (their equivalent of AMD's "Black Edition").
