The manual uses generic terms like "Single Sided" and "Dual Sided" but says it supports either "DS/SS" in any of the 4 slots, even when all 4 slots are in use.
I just replaced 4 512 memory modules (2 of them "single sided" and two of them "double sided") with 4 "double sided" high density 1GB modules. When I try to boot, I get the "DRAM Error" beepcode (1 long beep).
I tried all 4 of the new modules individually, to be sure I didn't get a bad one. They all worked. When I paired any two of them, the system would boot and detect the proper 2GB. Can't test 3, as the motherboard does not support the use of 3 modules. But when all 4 are in - BAM, "DRAM Error."
I'm only left to guess that the motherboard (nForce4-4x chipset) doesn't actually support high density memory?
