First time building a PC so need a little help. Basically got all the hardware connected and working.

But the problem is when I try to install a copy of WIndows XP Pro it either hangs at certain points or when it finishes loading all the drivers it will just reboot the computer. I cant even get to the partition your Hdd screen.

I tried Vista but it also hangs and when I get through I get a screen like could not boot please insert your installation cd and restart.

Here are my specs

asus pq5 pro
9800gt
e8400
hitachi sata 2 hd
samsung dvd-rw
500 watt psu antec earthwatts

How much ram & how many sticks? Try upping ddr2 voltage a notch. Best do memtest for 8+ passes:
