Hello,

I have an Ext HDD 500GB (WD Caviar Green WD5000AADS) in an Icybox enclosure connected to my PC, ESATA from box to SATA on mobo. The PC is slow to post with it connected and on (approx 30 seconds).

I was just wondering why the hang really?

I would expect a bit of a hang because the drive isn't tied directly into the SATA port, i.e. from the drive itself directly into the motherboard. It has to go through an esata connection first, which takes more time for the BIOS to identify and test.

Must admit kinda thought that, but want sure if I needed a driver for mobo?

Updating the MOBO driver wouldn't hurt, but you won't really see any noticeable improvement in post times, with or without the external connected.
