Occasionally my Q6600 CPU chip makes some ticking sound, does anyone know what is causing it?

I'm currently overclocking it @ 3Ghz. And it's running on Asus P5Q-PRO

Your CPU won't make noise. It is more likely the fan on your heatsink.
Are you sure it is coming from the CPU area?
A ticking sound from inside a computer case is most always the sound of a hard drive getting ready to die, very soon.

+1 for HDD. To tick you need moving parts, a CPU has none, maybe a fan or HDD like jtpub said.
