im reinstalling windows and im wondering if i should make a separate partition for it?

will it be faster? also, should all my programs go on a separate partition (im only working off of one hard disk)

also, does the os automatically create a partition for swap file or do i have to create it and specify it a swap file partition?

No, a seperate partition will not be faster. Keeping the OS and applications on separate DRIVES may see an increase in instances where you would have simultaneous access, but there's no reason to partition up a single HD unless you want a partition for media storage to make your life easier when you reformat.

Windows does not use a swap partition; it creates a swap file inside it's own partition automatically, but you can adjust it.
