Hi, would anyone be able to tell me how i can configure this motherboard to boot from a USB device on start-up?

I tried with a USB iPod nano that had bootable files on it, but in the Bios it was not listed in the devices, but was listed in CD-Rom devices for some reason.

I don't believe anything but a USB drive will be available as bootable (but I could be wrong - I've never heard of anyone trying something like this) - it's a matter of MBR structure...

Ok, so with a USB drive what settings would i need to change in the BIOS?

I'm pretty sure the only thing you need to do to ensure booting is to enable "LEGACY USB SUPPORT", which, at all other times, you want disabled, as it seems to cause reboot problems with overclocked MOBOs. This is the recommendation for booting a flash drive to zap your BIOS...
