hey everyone, im new here.. first post anyways! im wanting to build a new computer. this is gona be my first but i know my stuff, ive dont alot of reaserch and stuff.. im going to be watercooling my cpu, then the other stuff later on... so im wondering, this is gona be a gaming rig... but is quad core really needed? im planning on overclocking it alot, hence the watercooling.. so what do i get? dual core..? or quad core? and what quad/dual? q6600, q6700.. ect.. budget about 1600?
If you're going to water cool the thing, I can see no reason to scrimp on the processor. It may not currently be the most pertinent thing for gaming, but quads are much better for encoding and newer games should steadily become more capable of taking advantage of them.
Besides, I just switched to a quad, and love having so many free cores to do things with.
when i mean i spe'd it i am building for someone - keep in mind there is 2 video cards and 2 cases this is an order i just made for your exact systems!
your lucky day! NOTES THE P6T = $250 IT IS OUT OF STOCK MAKE SURE YOU GET IT SINCE THE GIGABOARD IS NOT SLI
SLI= ASUS P6T NOT DELUXE
NOTE 2: GET A THERMAL RIGHT 1366 NOT THE CRAPPY ZALMAN YOU NEED THER BRACKET - DO NOT USE MOBOS THAT USE THE 775 MOUNTING WITH BIG COOLERS
you need a big cooler with the 920 to run 3.8ghz to 4.3ghz
you can game at 4.2ghz do not run orthos you get too hot

there you go i buildig custom systems for 6 years, i just shipped the i7 in the photos - just look at the photos and copy the build list and you got it!
if you're cashing out on watercooling, get an i7. if you can't afford watercooling+i7, then air cool the blasted thing... you would get MUCH more performance than a watercooled core 2 duo or core 2 quad.
only way to go if you're willing to spend that amount of money..
