Okay, so I received a $200 gift card to tigerdirect for Christmas and have decided to spend it on a new cpu. I am caught up between these 3 at the moment. The computer's main purpose is gaming, FPS's for the most part. What processor would be my best bargain? If quad over dual then which one? Does the higher cache of the q6600 make i better than the q8200? Preferably looking for personal experience, not just some links to some benchmarks.

my current system..
[insert cpu here]
asus p5q pro
sapphire hd 4850 @ stock
4 gb a-data ddr800
ocz stealth stream 600w
lg 20" monitor @ 1680 x1050

thanks in advance.

if you are willing to overclock, then either of the quads. If not, then the higher clcoked dual core

Umm, not quite, the Q8200 has less cache and a lower multiplier than the Q6600. If you go quad, 6600 FTW.

For current titles, a processor like the E8400 can OC really well and blow through games.

The Q6600 can be an OC machine as well, easily reaching 3.2Ghz (some can do 3.4 & 3.6Ghz). I like the fact that the Q6600 has 8MB of Cache as well. As long as you can get a G0 version of this processor, I dont' think you can go wrong.

The Q8200 is slightly slower than the Q6600 (2.33Ghz vs 2.4Ghz stock), however has a faster Front Side Buss of 1333Mhz (Q6600 is 1066Mhz). If you OC you'll be changing the FSB anyhow. But the Q8200 only has 4MB of cache.

Personally, if it were me, I'd buy the Q6600 all over again. :) If you're willing to OverClock, this thing will match the E8400 easily, and will give you 4 cores for future software that takes advantage of multi-core processors.

Get a good aftermarket CPU cooler if you don't already have one. I enjoy my Xigmatek HDT-S1283 with bolt on kit.
