How much are you willling to spend? The i7 will give you the better performance but we are talking about twice the cost. The average i7 X58 mobo ranges form 250-400 bucks. A good OC mobo like the Asus P6T is 300 average. Then you'll need tri-channel DDR3 memory. 6GB runs about 150-250 bucks depending on brand and latency. If you don't mind spending the extra money then go i7. If you would rather save some money then go with a good P45 mobo and DDR2 memory (which is extremely cheap right now). The latter choice is probably better for you since it will still give you good performance.

Well this give you cost using Newegg conservative pricing.

Q6600: 190
P45: 150
4GB DDR2: 50
Total: 390

i7: 300
X58: 300
6GB DDR3: 150
Total: 750

Of course you can get these prices a bit cheaper but that's going to be about the ball park figures.

First to clear the doubt....If u wanna buy core i7 then u would ahve to upgrade ur mobo and ram also....if u already know this, then look into what mighty442 has said...
but personally i feel that u should at present jus upgrade ur cpu alone as i guess that u have a mobo which can accomodate the core 2 cpus bcos the launch of phenom 2 is fast approaching and even though am nt recommending to buy that but the launch could reduce the core 2 prices significantly...

But if u are planning to upgrade ur sys for gaming mainly then u should consider to upgrade ur gfx card first....then look into the cpu...And the core i7 doesnt offer much drastic improvemnt on the games end even though it blows away the apps benchmark...

521Mb RAM
and D101GGc

its a botle neck
i mainly think that i should go for Q6600 and save my some bucks for a graphic card , since 8800GT will lose its ability after 2 years.
so can any body tell me what FPS increment i can get with

Processor: intel core2 Q6600
mobo: intel DP43TF
RAM: kingston 2GB
GC: nvidia 8800GT 512Mb

plz give me rough idea for it.

would your motherboard support the Q6600. If it dose check to see if it supports the E8400 as well. The Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 is a 45nm stock clocked at 3GHz and can easily be taken to 4GHz and supports SSE4.1. And between the 2 the E8400 is faster for gaming sence most games dose not use Quad-Core's. But if you have to upgrade your motherboard to LGA775. I would not recomend unless you want to have a dead end motherboard with no support in a couple of years. There is where I would say go with the LGA 1366 and Core i7.

To tell you the truth the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and the Core 2 Quad Q6600 are about the same price tag.
