Am putting together a PC around the i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core. My list now is:
-Two or three: XFX HD-485X-ZDFC Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX
-ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
-OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000)
-EVERCOOL CI01-9525EP 95mm
-3 52" 1080p LCD monitors
-overclocked >4GHz
-no water cooling, no overvoltage.
It will be used for
-80% for 1080p video of home movies(conversion, editing)
-20% for gaming
So a fast CPU is a must, and good graphics for gaming would be nice.
Questions:
1. Have you tried this or other mb for OC over 4GHz? Give me your MB, and how fast it will go.
2. Have you tried CrossfireX with 3 graphics card? If this is untried, I will go with 2 cards. Have you tried with this mb and two cards.
3. What memory do you use, and how fast will it go without overvoltage?
4. The fan is one of the few blowing down. All the big fans blows sideways, and I have had problems with cooling the Northbridge. I cut out all the perforated fan holes in the case to get good airflow (this actually improves airflow at a given noise level with 10X!)
