Well, i suppose it will depend on pricing if it is to offer any competition to the 280 unless you are picking up L4D as it appears to do quite well in source.
Because IMO there is not enough difference in performance to decide by that factor alone.
------------------------------I'm a git, deal with it.
The price better go down, because in the benchmark the 4850 X2 is rivaled between the 260 GTX and the 280 GTX in terms of performance. @ 470$ for a 4850 X2, its going to be a terrible loss for AT, seeing as the 280 GTX can be found for 350-420$
Really nice!
Does it reguire as much power as 4870X2?
Just interested in. I have good 550W power suply but that is not enough for 4870X2. Just wondering if it's good enough for 4850X2?
stranger, im pretty sure your wrong. lol
anywwho, i doubt it'll be $450, and i really doubt ati thinks saving an extra pci-e slot is worth$100+.... just get two 4850's, whats the big deal? doubt you'll be CF'ing 2 of these monsters anyway... you'd probably get better results sli'ing 2x gtx280's

Most definately you would, alot easier to do dual GPU than quad GPU. I'm just thinking now though. 9800 GX2 minorly outperforms the 280 GTX at this stage, would that put the 9800 GX2 above the 4850 X2, since the 4850 X2 is below the 280 GTX and above the 260 GTX??
The resolutions look too high for the 9800 GX2 to compete competitely, especially with AA.

really your psu wont run 4870x2?!
my whole setup is only running on a 500w and draws similar if not more power then yours.

thoughts?
That's a very interesting point, but I think that we need to wait for more reviews before we pass judgement on this card. Something seems a little wrong. The 9800GX2 is very competitive when going against the 280GTX, and a 4850 in Crossfire wins out in most cases by a decent amount in benchmarks. The clocks are also the same as the 4850, so I'm not sure what we are going to expect out this card. Either way, I think $350 or under is the price point this card needs to shoot for in order to be a hit.
Real world exchange rate means what the price will be in the real world, we pay alot more in the UK for products and it is not unusual in the electronics market to see the same price in £'s refelcted in $'s.
So yes, i am in fact most likely right in that if we pay £300 you might well see $300's.

I think it'll be a little more than that for us. For example, the HD 4850
The DH review shows a tie between the 4850x2 and the G280. Depends on res and game, both are too close to ever know the difference. Itd be nice if they sold them for 325-350$, but Im thinking as we see more benches, itll edge out the G280, and the price will be above it as well
