I know that this build is out of your limit, but it includes everything you would need. If you really need to cut back you can cut down the video card to a 46xx or even drop the cpu to a lower model, but this rig will do very well in today's games and has lots of room to grow. The board can hold 8 gigs of ram and you can drop a quad core cpu in there later on. I went with AMD for the price/performance cost. If your looking for an intel system i'm sure others will post one.

my system is almost identical to the one crystal_tech suggested. i have little to suggest to improve that.

I'd go with the 9550, less heat and it doesn't have the tbl(tlb whatever can't think of it lol) bug. I'm not sure if the 9600 has it but the 9550 doesn't. Its what i use and its rock solid for me.

Why not just get this case that comes with a decent PSU?

You can also find cheaper versions of the 9800GT or the 8800GT (essentially the same thing) at stock speeds and then overclock it yourself (it's really easy to do and does not void warranty).

For your budget, I'd say http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814133242 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130380 are really nice choices for the video card.

Replace that HDD with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822136218 like suggested by crystal_tech and you won't regret.

I'd say I would go with mostly crystal_tech's build except the case and PSU and the video card. Trying to keep the most within your budget.

i can go over budget but then it would come out of my pocket because this build is for my schools computer club we each get 650 dollars to build our own computer (there was a a lot of fund raising but its worth it)

Reply to uguyslikeboats

If you use what I pick, I'm pretty sure the cost should be no more than $650 (in fact it should be a bit less). But the HD4850 > 9800GT or 8800GT.
