2 16x crossfire slots

If i buy a new quadfire mobo with 2 16x speed lanes, will they still give 16x speed if i use 2 x2 cards? basically, quadfire 4 x 16x in 2 slots?

yes, since the there are only 2 physical cards, if the motherboard supports 2 x16 slots, then it doesn't matter that the card has 2 GPUs, you are still only running two cards.

There is no motherboard that does 16/16/16/16, except the ASUS X58 Workstation which can do 16/16/16 for Tri-SLi/Tri-fire http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131358

790FX does 16/16, 16/8/8, or 8/8/8/8.

X58 does the same.

Of course the boards also need to have the proper slots, some of them have 3 some have 4 PCIe16 slots.

So the 16/16 will become 8/8/8/8 if i put 2 x2s in or is pinaplex right?

Ohhh so youre using 4870X2's ? If so then hell youre fine with basically any crossfire capable motherboard. If you get a 790FX chipset or X48/X58 then youll be running at full 16/16. No need to fear. It may be 4 GPU's but its still only two cards.

Sorry, I missed the part in your OP about you using two X2 cards.
