Looks like Intel is planning to launch 65w TDP energy-saving quad cores under the Core 2 Quad Qxxxxe series:

I can see this being particularly useful for large server racks of course.

I wants to see 4.4Ghz on air....

^I think the QX9650 can. But you would always need a Ultra 120 with 2 120mm fans.

but this might be a nice upgrade for me when I get some extra cash and they are under $200, since my mobo has thus far supported every Core 2 released to date.

The 65w Phenom 9350e has been available for over 3 months.

I hope you are right about the 45w desktop quad - I thought they were Shanghai.

And this is a troll post - exact same post at AT ...

It has, but the 9350e is somewhat of a joke compared to a 65W Q9550e as far as performance is concerned. Also, IIRC, the Q9550 is already only at about a 70W peak consumption, so it might be down to below a 50W power level for the 65W TDP version.

Thats all nice and great, but lets see some price drops on current models, not revisions that cost even more than their original 95W pieces.

^ For 65W, it's not that hard to undervolt such a great OC'er like the Q6600.

True, though the 6600 is quite power hungry compared to the 9550 and other 45nm quads. In fact, IIRC, the current 45nm quads aren't that far off of 65w actual power use - the rating is somewhat conservative.

^ I wanna 45nm Q6600!

I would like to see instead a revision on price  http://www.seoagora.com/img/589/d08l1104oulu/smiley2.gifhttp://www.seoagora.com/img/308/s08e1024rvou/champagne.gifhttp://www.seoagora.com/img/459/k08q1024glza/ecstatic.gif

C'mon 45W $80 45nm revision...

Well, there are always the Q9100 mobile quads (2.26GHz, 45W TDP)

Of course, they are something like $800...
