This should probably be quick for you experts to answer. I've done a bit of research on the web and haven't found anything conclusive. I've found favor saying I need additional power from my PSU and some favor saying I have more than enough.

I've been acquiring pieces for my new rig the past few weeks and will be putting it together soon.

MOBO: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R P45 chipset
CPU: Intel Quad Q6600 ~70w + AC freezer 7 pro
Video: XFX 9800 GT 512mb ~115w
HDD: 1 slightly older SATA 300 GB drive 1.5gb/s
Samsung DVD Burner SATA
4gb Crucial DDR2-800 RAM (I know it's slower than I'd like, but it was dirt cheap after rebate)
two 120mm fans
one 80mm fan

About a month ago I got a great deal on a Antec Sonata case w/ 500w Earthwatts PSU.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007&Tpk=earthwatts%20500w

From what I've read, it appears I may need no more than 400w at max load. I doubt I'll be at max load that often now, but could be in the future. Other configurations I've shown show that 515w is a recommended PSU. I've read this PSU is a good soldier, but want to make sure b4 I kill the PSU and/or system.

I'd rather spend an additional $75 than kill what I've built.

Thanks in advance,

You've got plenty of power and I can't see you needing anywhere near 400 watts at full load.
Running Orthos and Furmark while defragging my backup drive only pulls 400 watts out of the wall.
