So I finally order my comp from newegg. It was hard choosing between DDR2 or DDR3. I decided on DDR2 since it was a lot cheaper... but now I realize it wasn't all that cheap since I used the extra cash only stupid things that wont even help my performance. I ended up buying a BR Player, Razer Mouse Pad, Speaker, and Sound Card from retail stores around my area. All those extra mis. items cost $650. My order with newegg hasn't gone through yet so there might still be hope for me.
After seeing some review on the Asus Rampage Extreme; I think I should've gone with the DDR3 setup just because of how hot that mobo looks. Also, the Ram Guy from Corsair said that I have a better chance of reaching 4.0 with the Q9650 if I go with DDR3 instead of DDR2. Do you guys think I did the right thing? or should return all those stuff I ordered and just get the DDR3 setup?
The order I placed
DDR2 Setup
CPU: Q9650
PSU: Corsair 1000W
HS: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Black
HDD: WD VelociRaptor 300gb
Mobo: Asus or Rampage Formula
The Rampage Extreme is not really worth it. I'm also buying a Rampage Formula X48, and I ever considered the Extreme. You should not get the Q9650, as it's just a higher clock speed. I highly recommend you get a Q9550.
As for the DDR2 & DDR3 part, it's not really worth it. You can't really sense the differents, it's calculated in nanoseconds, and your processor have to be in par for it, or it'll won't be noticeable. A 1066MHz is a top-of-the-line DDR2 RAM, and I highly recommend a CORSAIR or OCZ Reaper one.
and a good heatsink to overclock with. i spent 30 bucks on a heatsink that can barly keep my c2d E6750 at stock speeds. i hit 75C running orthos for an hour at stock speeds.
