I completed my build a couple of days ago , E8400, P5N-D, 9800gtx+, Corsair 650W & 4GB Memory DDR2, Cooler Master CM 690 Case.
I am usually just game on this but one day I downloaded Speed Fan to see what my Temps were: CPU 58C, GPU 60C, Holy ****. I have not overclocked and I have 3 case fans, and decent cable management. The stock Intel Fan works and the XFX fan works so what? I am thinking about buying some more fans and the Cooler Master 212 CPU cooler and the Arctic Cooling 9800gtx+ VGA Cooler, I think this'll help.
But why are my temps so freakin' high? When I run the test Im only on Firefox, and maybe Itunes, the CPU is used up a mere 2% so what?
Please reply

1. Get a few other temp monitoring programs like Core temp, Real temp, get 2nd opinion on temps.
2. Your HSF might not be down all the way, I would check it....

Well I installed Core temp And it said 40C, which I think is okay, although my GPU is still 60.

Because I had overclocked it before, and then I rested it.
idle does not mean anything. whats ur temps at load? i have a 4850 that ran super hot with stock HS, then got after market zalman and it runs high 50 low 60 on load overclocked. if it runs too hot for you, then aftermarket heat sink is the only way to go.

hi my friend
about GPU. i have 9800 GTX black edition and i asked the manufacture
temp 60 in idle is Noraml and no need to worry at all u can buy VGA cooler so u make it 40 in idle (no needed)
about CPU. u mean 57 in Idle or load ?
if idle is 57 so u didnt fit the cooler well and no dougt about it go for it to fix it.
and if thats loaded so thats not bad because i have Q6600 and thats 40 in idle and 55-57 in load but i am using a blueorb 2 CPU cooler u didnt mention about any change in Cpu cooler if thats default so thats good.
try to add more fan.thats really really effect the temp of whole system.
i am going to buy your case Cooler Master CM 690 becasue of that space and NO of fan i can have in my system thats great case
60 isnt bad at all for a gpu, a lil high, but not bad. But, scurvythepirate, this happens when you use your haarrrrrrdware heavily heheh
