Tri SLI or Quad Crossfire?

Whats more powerful? Three GTX 280's or two 4870 X2s? Assuming 3 gigahertz Yorkfield Quad-core and oh 8 gigs of ram, so we know nothing is bottlenecking the system except the cards.
