hi all, as you can tell for the thread name i am looking to get a new gfx card but am unsure on which 1.

CPU E6600 Intel core2 Duo 2.4GHz ( 2 cores @ 2.4GHz = 4.8 GHz)
Motherboard ASUS P5B deluxe – wireless
RAM 2GB – 2x1GB MUSHKIN PC2-EM6400 5-5-5-12
VGA NEW Xpert Vision GeForce 8400GS 256MB PCIexpress Graphics Card
PSU NEW PSU Trust 570W Pro
Sound onboard
DVD and CD drives
Storage Hitachi 250GB
OS Windows XP Pro (installed) inc. service pack 3

I am going to get a new corsair 650 or 700w power supply so there is no problem with power
I had decided on a 4870 but i am starting to question my decision, i am not sure if i need that much power or weather it will work well with what i already have.
I have a 22" monitor
My budget is 160 pounds
I am going to be playing cod4 and crisis mainly (i would like to play reasonably high settings)
Possessor is going to be overclocked to around 3ghz

thanks for all replies in advance

4850 and 650W PSU? or 4870 and 500W PSU?

The 4870 is just over your £160 budget limit.
Im with grieve - 4870 is what you want.

A quality 500/550W PSU will be enough power and the lower cost will help you move up in gaming power to a 4870.

i just did a copy and paste from eBay, that's why it said 4.8ghz i forgot to change it

looks like i was right in picking the 4870 in the first place

The title of your thread says "what graphics card should i put in my rig?".

Then you said, "i just did a copy and paste from eBay, that's why it said 4.8ghz i forgot to change it. "

Is this something you are looking at to buy?

First off I would start with a quality PSU.

[dont hate me for saying this]

if you can find a gtx260 that is cheaper than the 4870 than lets say about.... $35, i would say that is a potential buy as well

i have alrady brought the computer, it was just easier to paste the spec instead of writing it out,

i think ill stick with a 4870, that's what the majority is saying to go for

You won't have any probelms swapping from Nvidia to ATI. You'll need to get new drivers though.

You didnt mention budget or what resolution you want.

SO....

Cheapest gaming GPU atm= 8800GT

Best= Triple GTX 280 in tri-SLI ( I love it but you probably cant afford it

1 4870 will run crysis on high at playable fps, but only on dx9, no AA/AF, shaders set to medium, and at no higher than 1680x1080 (or w/e the 1680x? Resolution is)

Give a budget first.

my res is 1680 x 1050 (22")
Budget 160 pounds

both could have been found or worked out from the first post, but ill forgive you for not reading it.

I think a 4870 will be best suited for my needs
