I just added a fan speed controller with an LCD for monitoring temps. I'm not interested in getting exact readings as I dont want the temp probes to be able to trip the annoying alarm in the controller. I just want to get a general Idea but my main question is simply how do I attach the temp probes. Can I just use black electric tape and put them in the general vacinity of what I want the tempearture of. Should I put the electrical tape on the tip of the sensor or on the wire and leave the sensor fully exposed?

I use masking tape (thin) and do not cover the tip of the sensor.
Covering the tip may falsify the readings.
I put the sensor in vicinity of what I want to check.

^+1. Use electrical tape but don't cover the tip.
