New build.....not recognizing hard drive?

Last night I put together a new system in a very old case. Specs:

Athlon 5000+

2 gigs OCZ DDR2 800 ram

ATI Radeon 4670

Ggiabyte mobo

old IDE hard drive (using it so I do not need to purchase XP again, do not have install CD)

Problem is, I get everything together just fine, the mobo beeps once at startup (successful boot) and then I either get the could not boot, etc, please insert system disk
OR
A couple times it got stuck on "verifying DMI pool data" on startup, and by stuck I mean I left it there for a good 10 minutes.

I am at a loss on this one, any advice? Thanks guys.

The harddisk order might have been changed and caused "please insert system disk" error. It just means the bios can't find the os drive that the MBR is pointing to. Try changing the harddisk order in bios.

If you have the old hardware used to install the old Windows, you can put it together and remove the drivers prior to mobo upgrade.

OK, I will try and do that. New one on me so I will go through the manual and see how to change the order. I appreciate the input.


OH, and I should clarify, I was only getting one error, the "system boot failure, please insert system disk".

When I ran Xpress recovery (the motherbord utility) it told me that IDE drive does not exist or all partitions are full. I dont know if that helps.
