So I got parts for my upgrade in, an ASRock Penryn1600SLIyaddayadda with an E8400 and 2x2GB GSkill DDR2-800. Put it all together last night, fired it up, and got excited as the BIOS splash screen jumped to life. I waited expectantly as I continually hammered F2 to see the options available to this new power I had purchased. But nothing, just the splash screen. It wont go any farther. Any ideas? Ive already stripped it down to basics, tryed different RAM, and reset the BIOS. Im at a loss.

unplug power cord, clear cmos for 10 mins+, if no luck, the bios may not supported the cpu stepping. It should be printed on the cpu box.

1.4 supports E0. It's been out since Feb.

If that's the case, you can pay a computer store to flash the bios for you.

OK, its as I suspected but haddn't had time to research this morning. The E0 stepping of the E8400 requires BIOS v1.4 and Im sure that the one on my board is probably not that new. Must aquire an older proc to flash BIOS with...

EDIT: Thanks auscanzukus, I just found that same page. I had a fit of joy when I saw my E0, didnt even think about BIOS support for it, lol.
