I'm trying to work out what is the best pci-e card to buy to upgrade my graphics peferomance of my current PC.

I have a

Shuttle Xpc Sn21g5
ATHLON 64 4000+ Socket 939 (2.4GHz) 1MB Cache
Kingston 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR 400MHz/PC3200 CL3 unbuffered 2.6V

Interesting, I have to say rigger mortise is a good term for your system.
I would look at replacing such a system.
That said, any card that would fit into the Shuttle box would probably be an improvement, depending on your current video card.

A nv 9600gt should do you well, anything bigger might be bottlednecked by your cpu
