HITACHI Deskstar E7K1000 vs HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C

What is the difference between these two drives? Specs seem identical but the E7K1000 costs nearly double. Are they just pulling the "best" drives from the same production line?

  1. E stands for:

    E = Enh. Availability (24x7)
  2. Deskstar E7K1000

    Deskstar 7K1000.C

  3. Ok. I was able to read that on Hitachi's web site as well. I'm looking for a more in depth answer. What are the actual differences between these drives? (Rather than just the Marketing Dept bs...)
  4. the 7k1000.C is the new model with 2 x 500gb platters (instead of 3 x 333gb common in older 1TB drives)
    xbitlabs has benched it in it's last hd roundup
    it's a great drive (for 80 dollars at newegg).

    edit: according to someone on the anandtech forum, the E7K1000 has 3 x 334 gb platters...I would certainly not buy that one.

    the WD 1tb 7200rpm (1001fals black) has 3 platters also but it is very fast.
