Here is my problem: My case was a generic one when I bought my built-to-order PC and back then I couldn't care less about case fans, so I didn't put any. Now I am thinking about overclocking, so I want to install some.
I've never done something like this so my questions might sound stupid, but please bare with me:
1) I have two 80mm holes on the side panel (roughly above the processor and the GPU) and one 120mm at the back of the case. What should I do with them? I was thinking having the two 80mm being intakes and put the 120mm one an exhaust fan to get rid of all the hot air. Or should I do the opposite?
2) My motherboard (Asus P5B) has only two case fans things-plugs (not a native speaker, not sure what their name is; sorry) but not three. I am assuming there are cables and adaptors I can use to connect the fans straight to the PSU, but I am not sure. Are there?
3) Also, one case fan thing-plug is completely covered by my GPU, so I am only stuck with one. If in the end, I can only use one case fan, which hole should I use?
4) The sidequestion: My mobo supports FSB 1066. I know I can push it to 1333 without any problems, but can I push it any further?
Thank you for your replies.
My specs, in case they are needed:
E6400
Asus P5B
ATi 4850
Chieftec 400W PSU (gonna change this one too - thinking about Corsair 750 or PC P&P 750 - good choices???)
WD 250 GB Sata II
2 GB RAM Transcend (PC2-5300-667 MHz)
Win XP Home
Unfortunately, there isn't a mount in the front; there are some on the right hand side (and towards the front), but my case is compartmentalized so an intake there won't do much good...they'll end up cooling my hard drive and nothing else.
I know that the 750 watt are overkill for now, but I am planning to keep my case, my fans, my drives and my PSU (maybe even my GPU and crossfire it) for my next i7 build (I am overclocking now, because this way I will be able to max out everything for a few more months). I am just waiting to get it along with windows 7, skipping Vista altogether.
Thanks both of you for your answers. It's settled then? Two intakes above the CPU and GPU and an exhaust fan at the back. They seem quite close, but I guess that's the best I can get with my case. All I need now is to decide on a cpu cooler.
