Rather get Intel core2quad , prices have dropped alot and is faster than the phenoms

Get a Phenom II, not the older one.

For the mobo, something based on 790GX chipset with SB750 south bridge.

It will not be as effective as the 790gx board with sb750. the southbridge 600 is an older chip and you'll be stuck running your memory at ddr2 800 speeds. And it won't be able to ACC.

Best bet is to get the Phenom 2 X4 940 and a 790gx board with ddr2 1066 ram. Get 4 gigs.

there's really no point buying that cpu. the new phenom II's just came out. why get and older, slower cpu?

Didn't know the 920 had a black edition..
All looks good although I would skip the ddr2 800 memory and get the 1066mhz speed 4 gig kit. I like OCZ personally.
everything else looks pretty good

Choose a good PSU for this rig, not just whatever cheap piece of crap comes in a case. An Antec Earthwatts 430 would be good, or a 500 for a little more room for upgrades.

There is no 920 black. There is a 940 black, but no 920 black.

Black edition is easier to Overclock. The multiplier is unlocked which makes overclocking a lot easier. Nothing else really special about it.

Yeah, the BE is for overclocking. A 920BE would be cool as one could almost hit the same speeds with that as with a 940BE. So I would stick with the 920 if 2.8ghz is fast enough for you, and you won't be ocing. Its priced better. Almost 40 bucks cheaper unless you have a promo code. (like me)

I just ordered my PH II 940 today and can't wait to crank it up . whoohoo!

The gigabyte board is a good one. I am running a Biostar t-force 790GX mobo I got for 100US here;
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813138128

it is going for 90 now. However they have another version that is am3 caompatible I believe for 100 clams.

But if you already have the gigabyte stick with that. They make good boards.

Reply to buzznut

the gigabyte looks good and its am3 compatible its just that someone said it would be better with sb750 where this board is 600 . i supose i could stick with it for now til i find a better one.

frankly im in the philippines so the best availoable here for motherboard is the emaxx amd 790 gx xtrm at 8 gbs with a palit6 9800 2gb pci-e.
black editions are really hard to come by here they have to be older to be avaialable here(sorry for the spelling my keyboard is getting jumpy also i see) anyway i would like to know the same is there a better motherboard for amd at 2.6 gz and better whether at 64x2 or phenom i found a 6000+ at 3.0 g hz but the 7750 black edition is cheaper actually, i am used to a dual
processor viao which i had built from my home computer with intell p-3's
dual boards are unheard of here so its amd or change everything of what i have here, any suggestions for that also.
im running 2 gb on a sempron with a nvidia graphics board and lcd display at 42 inches, not good by my standards, i miss my 60"plasma:)
