ummm, upgrade all of it. You can build a very nice intel based (cpu's are still way ahead of AMD) system for under $1k including a 20" monitor. My suggestion would be to tell us 1) how much you want to spend and 2) what will it be used for. ie: games, internet, video/audio editing etc.

the only thing you could do with that without sarting fresh would be a cheap ($100 or less) graphics card upgrade. you might find an opteron 165 or another dual core floating, but I wouldn't spend even $50 on one. anything more, and you'd be better off putting toward a new system.

your HDDs and LCD could be carried over, but they have been improved apon quite a bit too.

your optical is fine, but a new one is so cheap, you might as well get a Sata DVD burner while your at it.

The new one would be mostly for games and the max i could spend would mostly be around 1,200 Euros which is about 1,600 $. Does anybody have any suggestions?

CPU - $180-$250
e8400/e8500 or q6600/q9450 (Duo core will be just fine, but quad core has some benefits. The Duo core will generally be better at gaming, but the choice is up to you)

CPU HSF - $45 + $14 retention bracket = $59 I'm assuming your going to OC sometime in the future, otherwise the stock CPU HSF will do, which won't cost you anything extra.
Xigmatek s1283 w/RETENTION BRACKET!!

Mobo - $100-250 depending on which one you get!
p45/x38/x48 mobo (depending on upgrade plans and OC'ing)

Memory - $40-80 This is also dependant on if you OC mildly or extremely.
2x2gb's of DDR2 800mHz (minimal)

GPU - $130 (1x4850) - $320 (2x4850's or about $250-300 for 1x4870)
4870 or 2x4850's depending on LCD upgrade. A 4850 will do just fine for you 17" LCD, but if you go up to a 22-24" LCD the 4870 or 2x4850's will do just fine.

Case - $85 for Antec or $78 for Cooler Master
Antec 900/Cooler Master 690

PSU - $84 after $20 MIR.
Corsair 750tx!!

DVD Burner - $25 - $35 depending on brand or whether its OEM or Retail.
I like LiteOn burners, since I've had ZERO issues with them. There are plenty out there that a good too.

Now I listed these in USD, so if you have a site that you shop from let us know what it is, so we can see what options/prices you are dealing with.
