I'm intending to build a rig with HIS HD4870 1Gb graphics card. But in a long term, I would like to plug it into my LCD TV as a media pc perhaps(in future when i'm going to upgrade my system). Just wondering whether this will work on the 47" HDMI TV ?

Yes, it will work. The card has HDMI output (including sound) and your tv has HDMI imput....

how good is the card with the 47" in terms of resolution?

as always games and movies will look great. Resolution is not a problem.
Text will be awful. the pixels are just too big.
