DDR 2 v DDR 3

hi looking for some expert advice. im setting up a new system . im at present going to use my old DDR2 but was wondering whats the dif between DDR2 & DDR 3? is it worth changing and will it work on my board? the board is Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4. are the ram the same ?

DDR2 and DDR3 are not physically or electrically compatible. So if you're intending on reusing the same board, then DDR2 is what you want/need.

yea, DDR2 1066 is the highest i would go. probably would still stick with DDR2 800.


Your going to need DDR3 in a 1366 socket 100% but, for a socket 775 and that board.. na. your good with what you got.

ok thats excellent so at present i have 4GB black dragon 800mhz sitting in a drewer in the tower i am on just now i have 8GB 677 am i as well sticking with the slower or should i use the fatser sticks evon though there is only 4GB or should i just buy 8GB 1066????????

stick with your 800.. whats there clock speeds? regular 5-5-5-15?

the 4GB black dragon is 5-5-5-15 im not sure what the 8GB is
